Padres Place INF Logan Forsythe on 15-Day DL
(Padres Press Release)
Club also reassigns RHP Brad Boxberger to minor league camp
The San Diego Padres today announced they have placed infielder Logan Forsythe on the 15-day disabled list with a left foot sesamoid fracture. In addition, the club has reassigned right-handed pitcher Brad Boxberger to minor league camp. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcements.
Forsythe, 25, underwent a procedure on March 9 to have the medial sesamoid bone in his left foot removed. The procedure was performed by Dr. Heinz Hoenecke at the Scripps Surgery Center Carmel Valley. The expected recovery time from the date of his procedure was estimated at six to eight weeks.
With today’s announcements, the Padres currently have 40 players in Major League camp, including nine non-roster invitees.
THE FRO SAYS...
Logan had a good shot at making the team out of spring training as a utility infielder. He has had the injury before on the other foot so he knows the healing process. This should be a minor setback and Forsythe will be back in a Padres uniform in 2012. Plus, he will get some reps in teh minors at shortstop so it won't be too bad for the Padres. As for Boxberger. He had a couple bad outings this spring but overall was pretty impressive and I can see why the front office really wanted him in the Latos deal. I bet we see him again at some point this year
