IN-N-OUT'D!!!

Written by SDPads1 on .

innoutWhen the Avenger-In-Chief & myself threw down the gauntlet a little over a month ago, we did it with a mission...CURSE THOSE STINKING GIANTS!! And guess what? I think it may have worked!! Lets break it down.....

Since the Challenge (7/14):

Giants

Before: 52-40 1st place 3 games up

Since: 16-20 & now in 2nd place 1 game back

Injuries:
Pat Burrell placed on 15 day DL
Mark Derosa on 60 Day DL
Freddy Sanchez on 60 Day DL
Miguel Tejada on 15 Day DL
Barry Zito on 15 Day DL
Andres Torres on 15 Day DL
Sergio Romo on 15 Day DL
Carlos Beltran on 15 Day DL
Eli Whiteside on 7 Day DL
Brian Wilson on 15 Day DL

Trades:
Jeff Keppinger (-0.2 WAR w/SF) for Henry Sosa (20:7 K:BB/25.2 IP/6 ER) & Jason Stoffel (4 Saves)
Carlos Beltran (-0.2 WAR w/SF) for Zack Wheeler (4 Starts/2.70 ERA/23:5 K:BB)
Orlando Cabrera (-0.3 WAR w/SF) for Thomas Neal (Only 3 K's in 26 AB's)

Of note:
Brandon Belt has been recalled & sent back down a total of 17 times during this stretch (give or take a few), they only signed 6 of their top 10 picks & they are inducting 2 new members into their "Wall of Fame"....Jason Schmidt & Marvin Bernard??

Padres

Before: 40-52 5th place 12 games back

Since: 19-18 & now in 4th place 10.5 games back

Injuries:
Dustin Moseley placed on 15 Day DL
Chris Denorfia on 15 Day DL
Brad Hawpe on 60 Day DL
Ernesto Frieri on 15 Day DL
Chase Headley on 15 Day DL

Trades:
Mike Adams for Robbie Erlin (18:3 K:BB/17 IP/2.12 ERA) & Joe Wieland (2-0/2.25 ERA)
Ryan Ludwick for ...uhh...for...a used Gatorade bottle? (endless amounts of refills at the watering hole in the office)

Of note:
The Padres threw one of the greatest number retirement ceremonies in baseball history for one of the greatest closers in history, they rocked the '83 Brown unis not once, but twice & signed 8 of their top 10 picks.

With that said, THE BET stands at 4 wins for the Padres & 6 wins for the Giants. A 2 game sweep would get me right back into things and pull the Padres to 7.5 games back of the Giants. Tonight we have the matchup we've been waiting for all season as "I Hate SF!" Mat Latos takes the mound for the first time in San Francisco since the #balls incident.

I'm off to down some In-N-Out now. GO PADRES!
