The Bloguin family of baseball blogs, decided to do some MLB Power Rankings throughout the season. Each blog sends in their list with some comments on a few teams and then the overall average is picked giving you the power rankings. Simple enough, right? Quite a few teams made the jump from the first list (basically a pre-season picks list), but the team that made the greatest jump in the rankings was our own beloved Padres. They jumped 17 spots to take over the 8th spot. A couple notes regarding this list though....

-No surprise, the Padres got absolutely no love in the pre-season rankings coming in at 25th overall
-Under the current Giants comments the Padres get a jab taken at them when the blog NY Stadium Insider says "Unlike the Padres, their pitching is for real."
-Even under the Padres section the credit for their recent success is basically being given to......the White Sox? Around the Horn Baseball notes that "Former White Sox pitchers Clayton Richard & Jon Garland are key parts in a rotation with a 2.86 ERA."
-My comments regarding the Red Sox & Blue Jays were selected.

It's not easy being a Padre or Padre fan. Despite Garland having not played for the White Sox since 2007, he's still considered a White Sox? And just because KT pulled the wool over the Kenny Williams eyes (SO FAR) and got a whole bunch of pitchers in return for Jake Peavy, why does Clayton Richard have to mentioned as a former White Sox? And yes the Giants have an amazing pitching staff but the Padres staff isn't half bad either. Now if we were talking about a team like the Pirates or something and their ERA was in the top 5 THEN I could see making that comparison.

Since we are talking about "FORMER" players.....

Former Padres Stats
Jake Peavy is currently 0-1 with a 7.66 ERA with 15 K's & 15 BB's.
Trevor Hoffman is 1-2 with a 13.50 ERA and has given up 5 HR's with just as many blown saves as saves (3)
Kevin Kouzmanoff is hitting .244/.291/.333 with only 1 homer & 14 K's and already has 1/3 as many errors as he had all of last season
